I got into BFS fishing about 5 years ago and co-incidentally the budget BFS reels came around during the same time around 2020 There are great reviews about some of the best budget BFS reels, however no one talks about the long term reliability of these reels. I believe one reason for that is the number of new budget BFS reels that are manufactured in the CDM market.
