It is officially the end of an era at Magic Kingdom. On July 6, 2026, Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress closed its doors for the largest structural and creative reimagining the attraction has seen in over thirty years. The classic 1994 version of the show is gone forever, and the theater will remain dark until its grand reopening in late 2027. Before the construction walls went up in Tomorrowland, we went into the rotating theater to document and preserve the entire show in high definition! From the turn-of-the-century 1900s Valentine's Day scene to the retro-futuristic Christmas finale (complete with the voice-activated oven mishap), we captured every single detail, every audio track, and every animatronic movement so we can compare it all to the new version next year. What is changing in the 2027 Carousel of Progress Reimagining? Disney is completely shifting the timeline forward by 60 years! The classic acts we all grew up with are being replaced by entirely new decades: •The Intro: A brand-new, highly advanced Audio-Animatronic figure of Walt Disney himself will introduce the show. •Act 1: Moves from the 1900s to Summer 1969, where the family watches the historic Apollo moon landing. •Act 2: Moves from the 1920s to Halloween 1985, featuring Sarah showing off the latest household tech. •Act 3: Moves from the 1940s to New Year’s Eve 1999, celebrating the dawn of the internet and the new millennium. •Act 4: A completely redone retro-futuristic finale inspired by legendary Disney Imagineer John Hench. Don't worry—the core family, Uncle Orville in the bathtub, and the iconic theme song "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" are all staying (though the song is getting a brand-new orchestral arrangement!).
