George Bernstein, the author of this photo, had spent the afternoon in Antibes having lunch at an outdoor restaurant, visiting the Picasso museum, and strolling. This was a day of touring for his group doing a watercolor workshop with artist Iain Stewart. When George took this picture it was late afternoon. The shops were closing and the streets and squares were clearing out. He was attracted to the perspective, the light from the lowering sun on the treetops and upper parts of the buildings, and the colors of the sky and the bright yellow-green of the trees.
