Could Poland 🇵🇱 have its own modern attack aircraft capable of competing with the world's best designs, such as the A-10 Thunderbolt II? In the 1990s, PZL Warszawa-Okęcie developed the PZL-230 Skorpion – a futuristic combat aircraft equipped with a fly-by-wire system, advanced avionics, stealth features, and the ability to carry up to 4 tons of ordnance. The aircraft was intended to take off from short, makeshift airfields, support ground forces, and represent a technological breakthrough for the Polish aviation industry. Why was the project canceled? Did it really have a chance of success? And would a similar design make sense today, in the era of drones and asymmetric conflicts? Or would it even be the ideal basis for a counter-drone platform?
