Acid vs. Alkaline Perms Explained

explaining the main differences between an acid-based perm and an alkaline-based perm. Acid-based perms are more for body waves, softer, more natural styles. Acid perms are typically a lower pH (around 6.5-7). Some acid perms will require heat (read the manufacturer's directions) The one shown in the video does not require heat however, the solution will warm up when mixed together. Alkaline-based perms are for resistant hair, gray hair, or coarse hair. Alkaline perms are a higher pH (around 8.2-9.6). They will give a tighter, more defined curl pattern. Alkaline perms are "cold waves" meaning they do not require an outside heat source to work. NOT ideal for overly porous hair, lightened or heavily colored hair or overprocessed hair. pH scale: 0:06 hair structure: 1:04 acid perm: 2:00 alkaline perm: 4:41 *my other channels: main channel: ‪@BrittneeAlexus‬ cooking channel: ‪@brittneealexuscooks‬ instagram:   / brittneealexus   All content, including text, images, and videos, is the exclusive property of Brittnee Alexus LLC and is protected by copyright.
