1961: Meet THE CRYSTAL MAKERS | Classic BBC Documentary | BBC Archive
Philip Donnellan's documentary film follows Billy Evans and the artisan glassmakers of Brierley Hill, near Stourbridge. For over 300 years the finest crystal table glass has been made in this region, four generations of craftsmen have passed on their knowledge and skills to the next. Glassmaking is a job that requires brawn and delicacy in equal measure - a touch gentle enough to coax intricate patterns in the glass, and strong enough to break down and replace the white hot glass furnace. Narrated by Phil Drabble Editor: Harry Hastings Camera: Hugh Wilson Sound: Maurice Everitt Clip taken from The Crystal Makers, originally broadcast on BBC Television, 22 August, 1961.
