The Anniversary of the Kindertransport | Child Rescuer Sir Nicholas Winton | USC Shoah Foundation
The Kindertransport ("Children's Transport") was an organized rescue of children from Nazi-controlled areas (the "Greater German Reich") during WWII. On December 1, 1938, the first Kindertransport left Berlin, carrying 200 Jewish children. Between 1938-1940, approximately 10,000 children were rescued and cared for in Great Britain. 669 of these children were saved by British humanitarian Sir Nicholas Winton from Nazi persecution in occupied Czechoslovakia. His full testimony is featured today to commemorate the anniversary of the Kindertransport, and the heroic actions of its organizers.
