The Sega Genesis port of Mortal Kombat was developped by Probe Software and published by Arena Entertainment (in North America and Europe) in 1993 and by Acclaim Japan for the japanese market in 1994. The original arcade game was developped by Midway and released in 1992. This event’s main purpose was to promote the various ports that could be played at home. Mortal Kombat is a one and one fighting game in the same vein as Street Fighter II. You select a character and you fight a two out of three round against every character, including a mirror match. Then, three endurance matches are introduced. Those are fights against two characters that you fight one at a time. Your health is not restored between the two opponents has fought them is considered a single round. Mortal Kombat is well known for its fatality, which is hidden move performed at the end of the match against the loser. Each character has one unique fatality, except Goro and Shang Tsung. There is also a Pit Fatality, the first stage fatality in the series, but it isn’t acknowledged as a finishing move unless you perform Liu Kang fatality in that stage. Like the other initial port, the Sega Genesis version of Mortal Kombat was censored. Unlike the Super NES and Game Boy version, however, it is possible to use a cheat which restore blood and the censored fatality. Johnny Cage, Kano and Rayden’s fatality were altered to be less violent. Cage will perform a super Shadow Kick that sends his opponent in the far corner. Kano will rip a grey heart that is not bleeding and Rayden will shock the opponent head (without the opponent head exploding). The Pit Fatality is only accessible with blood mode on, even if the player performs Liu Kang fatality when blood mode is off. In both modes, the pit bottom is completely censored, leaving the area clean. The Genesis port is much closer to the Arcade Original in terms of engine. Most moves, combo and bugs can also be done in this version. Dues to the system limitation, most sound effects were simplified or removed. The music was also altered, mostly featuring remix of the original soundtrack of the Arcade as well as extended version of them (such as the Game Over theme used as the music of Goro’s Lair). On Earthrealm, a tournament is being held on Shang Tsung’s. 500 years before the current time, Shang Tsung was banished and came back with the half-human half-dragon Goro, to take control of the tournament. For 500 years, Goro held the title of champion and was undefeated. However, everything changed when the current time tournament is held, as the seven fighters who stand above the other in that tournament changed everything. Those seven fighters are Johnny Cage, Kano, Rayden, Liu Kang, Scoprion, Sub-Zero and Sonya Blade. Liu Kang’s ending, which states he defeated Goro and Shang Tsung to give the tournament back to the original owner, is considered canon. Mortal Kombat playthrough The playthrough starts with the game introduction. They are several goals in the this run. The goal of the playthrough is to beat the game with each character without getting hit once. In addition, an extra playthrough is done with Johnny Cage to showcase the game when Blood Mode is. On, including a fight with Reptile and the original fatalities. Many tricks were used to trick the CPU into performing an easy counter able to move. Jump kick are very effective against them, done from a distance, since the CPU (including the bosses) will never block it. Corner infinite was used infrequently through the run. Some glitches are used, such as mid-air fatality or double throw, but no cheats were used.
