Consider donating to the Folk School on our website: https://www.folkschool.org/giving/ Erynn Marshall and her husband, Carl Jones, are old-time musicians and inspired tunesmiths from Hillsville, VA. They are married - in life and music. Southern song-duets and powerful fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo tunes comprise their diverse sets. While rooted in the traditional sounds of older players, this duo stays true to their own muse by composing new, tradition-rooted music. Their original tunes and songs are played by many musicians around the world and Carl's song, "Last Time on the Road," was featured on the Grammy-award winning album, Unleashed, by the Nashville Bluegrass Band. Instrumentally, Marshall and Jones have won many awards for their playing including Erynn's first place fiddle wins at Clifftop and Mt. Airy, and Carl's third place fingerpicking-guitar win at Winfield. In 2020, they released the duet album, Old Tin, and are featured on Old-Time Sweethearts (2021) and Fiddle-Tunes by Uncle Dick Hutchison (2022). Morningsong, a Danish custom of singing, folklore, and camaraderie, is how we start class days at the Folk School. Before breakfast, from 7:45 to 8:15, three days a week, folks congregate to listen to music, stories, and jokes. All are encouraged to sing along.
