THE WALK OF THE FREE - Arbaeen 2016

In 2016, I was blessed with the greatest privilege and honour in performing this walk which occupied 3 days, where I met people of all walks of life, age, ethnicity, religion and cultural backgrounds. This walk of Arbaeen (the fortieth) has become so powerful to the extent that it has been labelled as "The World's Largest Peaceful Gathering!" This journey is known as the 'Walk of the Free' where millions participate in this walk, Muslim and non-Muslim alike, in honour of the sacrifice of Hussain and to learn from the stories, lessons and tragedies he and his family experienced. Hussain was known to support the oppressed, father the orphans, abolish racism, honour the rights of women, respect and shelter animals and above all... stand up against injustice and tyranny. Hussain serves as a role model for all people especially those have been able to cause revolutions in history for establishing human rights. This highlights the universality of the message of Hussain and the true, unadulterated message of Islam. Nelson Mandela states, “I have spent more than 20 years in prison, then on one night I decided to surrender by signing all the terms and conditions of the government. But suddenly I thought about Imam Hussain and Karbala movement and Imam Hussain gave me strength to stand for right of freedom and liberation and I did.” Great soul Mahatma Gandhi honoured Imam Hussain as his role model against the injustices of the British forces by saying: "I learned from Hussein how to achieve victory while being oppressed.” Currently the 2017 Arbaeen walk is being performed so in light of this holy period... here is my journey! Let’s move the world and cause a revolution that is based upon love, morals, respect, unity and above all our humanity!
