Exit 8: Lore Breakdown and Movie Ending Explained

2026 has proven to be quite the year for horror video game adaptations. Starting off strong with Markiplier's Iron Lung, then moving to the not so great Mortuary Assistant, and soon we will have Kane Pixel's Backroom adaptation from A24. However, coming right from Japan is an adaptation of the liminal space walking simulator "Exit 8." This movie had an amazing premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, and has had a great run so far critically since its global release. Having played the game itself, the Exit 8 movie adapts the game perfectly, and also expands upon it greatly. However, there are still some things that I have seen people confused about. Today, I wanted to give a refresher on the game for those that haven't played it, explain the anomalies present in the game. For the movie, I will explain and dissect all of the symbolisms and lore from the movie, as well as explain the ending.
