King's Commissioner Wouter Kolff visits Mayor Evert Jan Nieuwenhuis of the municipality of Waddinxveen" In pictures: The camera pans from the Town hall and the square in Waddinxveen to King's Commissioner Wouter Kolff and Evert Jan Nieuwenhuis, Mayor of Waddinxveen. They are standing together on the square in front of the town hall. In the foreground, you can see a walking path with benches and landscaping, while in the background, the town hall, trees, and a parking lot are visible under a cloudy sky. Wouter Kolff, King's Commissioner: "Today I am a guest in the beautiful municipality of Waddinxveen, situated between Gouda and Alphen aan den Rijn. I am standing here next to Mayor Evert Jan Nieuwenhuis. It is wonderful to be here. Thank you for the hospitality today." Evert Jan Nieuwenhuis, Mayor of Waddinxveen: "You're welcome." Wouter Kolff, King's Commissioner: "And also warmly received by the entire Municipal Executive, shown around the municipality. From what I saw, a very beautiful municipality with down-to-earth people. A municipality where a lot is being built and developed. With a wonderful stroopwafel factory." Evert Jan Nieuwenhuis, Mayor of Waddinxveen: "Also." Wouter Kolff, King's Commissioner: "What comes to mind when you think of the municipality of Waddinxveen? What are you proud of?" Evert Jan Nieuwenhuis, Mayor of Waddinxveen: "Well, what comes to mind when I think of Waddinxveen is that beautiful, down-to-earth mentality of the can-do type. Rolling up your sleeves. For example, we paid a visit to the Ukraine reception center. I also explained how it was established in just a few days. Dropping everything, rolling up your sleeves together. That is truly Waddinxveen. Together, putting our shoulders to the wheel, getting to work. We saw that in the new neighborhood, for instance. That playground island will be the Spring Fair again in two weeks. It is organized entirely by the municipality itself, or by the community itself, I should say. Those are wonderful things." Wouter Kolff, King's Commissioner: "So the most special thing about Waddinxveen is, after all, the Waddinxveeners." Evert Jan Nieuwenhuis, Mayor of Waddinxveen: "That is it." Wouter Kolff, King's Commissioner: "When it comes to the development of the municipality, you can do a great deal yourself, but you also need cooperation. What is your view on cooperation in the region and also with the province?" Evert Jan Nieuwenhuis, Mayor of Waddinxveen: "We discussed that extensively this morning in a very pleasant manner. And we realized very quickly that we really need that region. We also work together very pleasantly here in Midden-Holland. And we really need the province. Because regarding all those housing development sites, we naturally discuss with each other how things will go in terms of numbers and how things will go in terms of the program. Also when it comes to traffic and accessibility. The growth is necessary; we need those homes, but at the same time, traffic sometimes grinds to a halt. Yes, then we have to look again at where to direct those flows. We really need each other for that, and I already said that this morning. And I will say it again: fortunately, things are going very well. So in that sense—and we don't have a very long wish list—if we simply continue the cooperation we have had for years, then Waddinxveen will be satisfied." Wouter Kolff, King's Commissioner: "That's great. Well, best of luck with the future of Waddinxveen. I understand the mayor will be staying on for a while." Evert Jan Nieuwenhuis, Mayor of Waddinxveen: "He is certainly enjoying himself." Wouter Kolff, King's Commissioner: Best of luck with that and many thanks for the hospitality." Evert Jan Nieuwenhuis, Mayor of Waddinxveen: "Thank you and you're welcome." VOICE-OVER: "The logo of the Province of South Holland appears. Text on screen: 'Powerful South Holland'."
