From Earthquakes to Asteroid

Sometimes we have to look up to study what's below. This may be the case when it comes to getting new information about the interior of earth. The spacecraft Psyche is headed to an asteroid called 16 Psyche. This asteroid appear to be the exposed core of a planet that failed to form billions of years ago. If it turns out to be one, it will give us incredible new data on the interior of our own planet. But we first need to make sure that 16 Psyche is in fact the core of a failed planet. Onboard the Psyche spacecraft is an instrument, a magnetometer that will help us determine if it is. This video is about this instrument and why it's important for this mission.
