Today, we've brought you Master Kim Hong-rae, winner of the Grand Prize in the Jujube category at the 2017 Fruit Industry Fair, to share his pruning and management techniques for jujube trees. Master Kim maintains his trees taller than other jujube trees. He explains that while lowering the height makes harvesting easier, higher heights yield greater yields, which is why he chooses to keep them tall. He also shaped the trees into an inverted triangle shape, excluding the lowest main branches. He pruned off three-year-old branches and used new ones to harvest high-quality jujubes. When pruning seedlings, he recommends planting the first main branch at least 70cm above the ground to prevent rainwater splashes and other diseases like anthracnose.
