In this video, the "Fishing for Garlic" channel addresses a pressing issue for all owners of transom-equipped boats: installing an outboard motor. We installed a low-power Chinese-made Hangkai 3.5 motor on our Aqua-Master 280 and, of course, immediately encountered problems. There are actually two problems: 1) The transom bends, and the motor tries to slide under the boat (in our video, the motor's foot angle is set to maximum; in the normal position, the motor almost slides under the boat); 2) The entire structure wobbles and appears very unreliable. To combat these issues, we installed guy lines on the sides of the boat and pulled the transom toward the boat. This helped, but didn't completely eliminate the problem. You can see what it looks like from the outside in our video. Everything is fair! The motor was being run in, so we operated it at 1/2 throttle (see video). At full throttle, it feels like the engine is about to fall off! Conclusion: a boat with an outboard transom is only suitable for an electric motor or a very low-power gasoline engine (IMHO)! It's better not to buy one at all if you're even planning on installing an outboard motor. But more about choosing a boat in the next videos...
