He initially sells a lighting service rather than the lamps themselves. 1902: The company relocates to Wichita, Kansas, to be in a more central location for its territory. 1903: Coleman buys the patent for the "Efficient Lamp," improves it, and begins selling it as the "Coleman Arc Lamp". 1909: The first portable table lamp is introduced. 1914: The company introduces the first Coleman lantern, which includes improvements like a bug screen and a flat base. World War I: The company's lanterns are used by Allied forces. 1920s: Coleman expands its product line to include portable stoves and oil-space heaters. World War II: A compact stove is developed and becomes essential for soldiers. 1950s: The company starts manufacturing coolers. 1996: Coleman acquires the French company Campingaz. 2010s: The company expands its product lines to include a wide range of outdoor and recreational gear.
