Mozart also studied the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, probably the greatest fugue composer of all time. He summarized his findings in 1783 in a fugue for two pianos. Five years later - as a freelance artist, he constantly had to come up with new works and was constantly exploiting old pieces - he arranged it for string orchestra and prefaced it with a weighty introduction featuring no less daring dissonances.
