Summer synth jam | Sequential Take 5, Arturia DrumBrute Impact, Wingie, Slöer, Bass VI

Please support my work on Patreon:   / jayhosking   A live table-top synth performance, with guest appearance from a friend. Warmer weather brings slower tempos and reflective thoughts. I started by putting the Take 5 on the table, exploring some of the presets until I find a delayed key sound I like. I used the Take 5's internal sequencer to grab a line, and then played over top of it (great design from Sequential to be able to play over their internal sequencers). For drums, I added the trusty DrumBrute Impact to the table. As you might have noticed, I'm really into guitar these days, so I started playing the Bass VI at the same time; for amp simulation, I'm using the Pod Express Bass. Guitar was my main songwriting instrument for more than twenty years, so playing a little Bass VI was all I needed to hear the entirety of the song structure. And, as I've been doing a little more recently, I started singing. To enrich the setup without adding another sequenced synth, I added the Meng Qi Wingie to the table. The Wingie has two microphones that captured my singing, and then turned them into tuned resonance. (Tuned resonance has been my thing for a while, whether it's MI Rings or the Torso S-4 or whatever). To make the tuned resonance ring out a little more majestically, I added the Walrus Slöer on reverb. Once I had a main pass of the performance—Take 5, DBI, Bass VI, vocals and Wingie/Slöer—I wanted to add to the song. For extra drums in the chorus, I added Addictive Drums 2 in the box. But the song reminded me of some pieces from my younger days, so I recruited my friend Mark Meeks to record vocals and guitar on it. He said, "I'll do it, as long as I don't have to be on camera." Deal! I imagine it might be clear who the song is about. Suffice it to say it's for the loyal, silent companions who accompany us for their whole lives. We don't get enough time with them. Thanks for listening. https://jayhosking.bandcamp.com
