They had endured a long Sabbath, just sitting with the knowledge of His death. When the women went to anoint Jesus’ body, they expected to find the tomb sealed with a large stone, which the religious leaders had requested, along with a guard, to prevent the disciples from stealing Jesus’ body (cf. Matt. 27:60-66). Instead, they found that someone had rolled the stone away. Upon entering the tomb, the women encountered an angel with glorious news, filling them with terror at first. Jesus was alive, and His resurrection changed everything! The empty tomb is the foundation of our faith. Because of Jesus’ resurrection, we know that God accepted Jesus’ sacrifice and has taken His wrath away from all who trust in Jesus. Want to create live streams like this?
