Historical hair care mistakes to avoid? Historybounding with hair routines and no poo
Lots of myths and common hair care mistakes show up in historical hair care, from how to grow hair fast to how to go no poo. I'm a hairstylist, and these mistakes can ruin your hair care routine! Some of these seem like the magic solution for how to grow long hair fast, and other common hair goals! But I've learned a lot about what hair care mistakes to avoid as a hairdresser, and I don't want anyone to fall victim to misinformation about hair care mistakes that ruin your hair. So when I see these historical hair care myths going around, I want to counter them with some hair care tips that will help your hair routine, whether you like to use historical hair techniques or are just interested in learning about hair history or hair growth hacks. Historical hair techniques overlap with no poo, a modern movement towards hair care with no shampoo. Medieval hair washing didn't used no shampoo either-- but that doesn't mean it's a good idea to completely neglect your hair! The medieval hair combing method kept hair clean and detangled without water and shampoo because running water wasn't easily available, and other historical eras had other ways to care for hair. However, historical hair care wasn't automatically better, and this is another of these important hair mistakes to avoid! Nothing is automatically better becuase it's older or newer, whether that's historical hairstyles or modern hair care methods. What's more, there's marketing hype about historical hair routines just like there can be about any other hair routine. Some of this is straight-up Orientalism, but it's important not to fall for the hype even if it's not about products. Historical hair techniques can be marketed like anything else, but there is no one hair growth hack that will automatically fix everything wrong with everyone's hair. So it's important to have reasonable expectations, whether that's for medieval braids or historical hair growth secrets. There's only such a degree of fast hair growth you can get, with historical techniques or anything else. Keep in mind next time you watch a historical hair tutorial that historical hair care won't give the same results as modern hair care, with medieval hair braids or any sort of historical hair washing. I love to historybound with my hair, using a mix of historical hair styling methods and modern ones to put together a semi- historical hair routine. Self-knowledge and understanding what works best for your hair and your life is essential to putting together a hair care routine that works for you! There are no historical hair growth secrets that will make your hair grow six inches overnight. But you might like historical hair powder better than dry shampoo, or prefer the medieval hair combing method for when you're camping or traveling.
