When John F. Kennedy’s patrol boat PT-109 was destroyed by the Japanese forces in WWII, Eroni Kumana found and rescued him and his crew. Then, at great risk to himself, he paddled a secret message to an Allied Base nearly 65km through Japanese patrolled waters to let them know the crew was safe. We were honoured to spend some time chatting with Mr. Kumana and his family on their island.
