Today I’m traveling from Oslo to Stockholm by train on board an SJ Intercity service in First Class, covering a distance of 566 km by rail… despite the two capitals being only 386 km apart as the crow flies. This 6-hour journey connects Norway and Sweden through forests, lakes and quiet towns, crossing the border almost unnoticed before continuing deeper into the Scandinavian landscape and finally reaching Stockholm Central Station via one of the most beautiful railway approaches in Europe. But with flying taking just around 1 hour, and driving around 6 and a half… does this train actually make sense?
