Rodi investe 18 milhões de euros para reinventar a indústria europeia da bicicleta

A Portuguese company has developed its own technology, created a new generation of high-precision components, and positioned itself among the few European manufacturers capable of producing virtually an entire bicycle wheel in-house. This investment reinforces Europe's industrial autonomy and consolidates Rodi as a global leader in the sector. For decades, one of the biggest paradoxes of the European bicycle industry was its heavy dependence on Asia for the production of some of the most technologically important wheel components. Even leading manufacturers were forced to import essential parts, making them vulnerable to fluctuations in the international market, logistical costs, and disruptions in supply chains. It was precisely this reality that the Covid-19 pandemic dramatically exposed. The scarcity of components led many European companies to suspend orders, delay deliveries, and lose competitiveness. Rodi Industries decided to transform this weakness into an opportunity. With an investment of approximately €18 million, supported by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), the Portuguese company presented one of the most ambitious industrial innovation projects ever developed in the national two-wheeler sector, moving to internal manufacturing of components that until now were mostly acquired from Asian suppliers. The project represents much more than the expansion of an industrial unit. It is a structural change in the way the company produces, researches, develops technology and competes in international markets, placing Aveiro at the center of the new European strategy for more sustainable and technologically autonomous mobility.
