“Our desolate world of order controls you And you shall be subordinate to the saint Beyond the seven winds of the world” 2 months after Sanctus Impius was originally started in May 2026, the one-man progressive black metal project from Japan is eager to bring their debut demo to the black metal underground. The music on display here is claimed to be the Sanctus Impius mastermind’s most accomplished work throughout his journey into the metal music scene, with said mastermind, Menti, being limitlessly proud of the demo’s quality. Started by Menti after the dissolution of his/their earlier project Hanzaisha (alongside an endeavor into death-doom with Immortal Dissolver), Sanctus Impius on their debut 2026 demo demonstrate a vigorous and bombastic debut for their sound, a cross between the epic, grandiose sense of melodic continuity of Dawn, the atmospheric sense of invoking emotional flurries not unlike that of Summoning, and on top of it all, an elegantly progressive rock-like spirit to their songwriting. It can be said to be the culmination of every distinct element that made atmospheric and melodic black metal feel fresh and innovative compared to the minimalistic black metal bands of 1990’s Norway. The fictional universe of Sanctus Impius’s lyrics represent cosmic metaphors for the ushering into a fear-driven world that we will soon start to live in again, with levels of hatred not seen since the 1920’s. The lyrical contents of the demo are reinterpreted sci-fi horror versions of events documenting the universal rhetoric of a hypothetical nationalism-dominated world that exploits minorities, by discriminating against their right to live, and dividing them with propaganda, rumors, limitless violence, and Internet censorship to increase the production and infinite supply of empty cultural stereotypes. The lyrics are sci-fi fantasy settings slowly revealing themselves to be documentaries, showcasing cries of the most infamously desperate and extreme situations found in the history of the world.
