Hello, this is Mrs. Dol. I am currently working as a bartender at a restaurant in San Francisco. I watch countless colleagues come and go on part-time jobs. Among them, a great many young people, unable to find employment despite holding a four-year college degree, jump into the service industry—whether they like it or not—just to make a living. It is also common for those who have completed a four-year regular course to start studying for technical positions with the goal of employment again. The world is changing incredibly fast, and the ideal candidate profile that companies seek has completely changed. However, many Korean parents are still pushing (or dragging) their children along using the exact same success formulas from decades ago. The numerous successful people I have met locally are living more prosperous lives than anyone else, even without the prestige of a prestigious university degree. Why is that? It is because while others spent long hours obsessing over degrees, they built their own fortresses using know-how gained through on-the-job experience and a solid mentality. Surprisingly, the educational backgrounds of those who have risen to positions of power over others, rather than being bossed around, are quite ordinary. It is time to change your mindset.
