I say this because I sometimes make myself frozen Emmental-filled crepes at the end of a meal, like 10 minutes later, as a dessert. And I understand that it might be shocking, but honestly, I think I'm onto something. What if dessert is more about that little moment of pleasure at the end of a meal rather than being a food item? We tend to think of dessert as sugar, but really, who decided that? We use sweet products for the main course... literally, we can make caramel chicken. So it's not like we can't swap the two. Also, consider that, strictly speaking, we eat cheese at the end of a meal. Cheese is clearly more in the savory category than the sweet, but you wouldn't be surprised to have it for dessert. So, I figure dessert is really something we eat for pleasure at the end of a meal, regardless of its nutritional value (like, nobody eats a muffin for the 0.1g of protein). According to good old Aspros's logic, if you eat your main course and then decide to have a "dessert" afterward—something you enjoy but that isn't necessarily sweet—then it's a dessert. A crepe filled with Emmental cheese is a savory dessert... (especially since it's actually a sweet crepe with cheese, so there's nothing more "dessert-like" than that). Also, imagine you've eaten, and then after your meal, you grab a bowl of plain popcorn. Technically, it's popped corn, so it's more salty than sweet. And yet, it wouldn't bother you. So I think I'm not the only crazy person who believes savory desserts exist... so what about a plate of fries? It's the same principle. Who eats fries for their nutritional value? (I'm obviously excluding "healthy" alternatives like potatoes cooked without oil or in an air fryer; it's not really the same thing). Grabbing a bowl of fries 10 minutes after eating, just for the pleasure of it, that's a dessert for me. A savory dessert. Any questions?
