【今川氏真と掛川城攻防戦】戦国大名今川氏 滅亡す
This video explains Imagawa Ujizane and the Battle of Kakegawa Castle. Kakegawa Castle was built during the Bunmei era when Imagawa Ujichika was appointed as the official of Kakegawa Manor. With an eye toward advancing into Tōtōmi, he ordered his senior vassal, the Asahina clan, to build the castle. It was originally constructed on Mount Tenno, 500 meters northeast of the current Kakegawa Castle. Ryugein Temple now stands on the site of the former Honmaru citadel. A huge moat remains between the main bailey and the second bailey. In 1513, the Asahina clan built Kakegawa Castle on its current site. The current Kakegawa Castle is a flatland castle built on Mount Ryuzu, an independent hill 56 meters above sea level. The Sakagawa River, which meanders along the south side, and its tributaries are incorporated into the moat to form the castle's boundaries. It was developed into its current form during the reign of Yamauchi Kazutoyo, after this battle. In 1568, Shingen began his invasion of Suruga, while Ieyasu began his invasion of Tōtōmi. When Shingen invaded Sunpu on December 13th, Ujizane abandoned the Imagawa mansion and fled to Kakegawa Castle two days later on the 15th. Ieyasu also began his invasion of Tōtōmi at almost the same time, entering Hamamatsu Castle (Hikima Castle) on the 18th. Ieyasu advanced further and surrounded Kakegawa Castle, but instead of attacking it forcefully, he built secondary castles around it and besieged it. However, Kakegawa Castle was a famous castle built over three generations by the Asahina clan, the Imagawa clan's number one senior vassal, and despite the fierce attacks of the Tokugawa army, the castle did not fall easily. For this reason, it is said that Ieyasu made peace on the condition that Suruga would be returned to Ujizane once Shingen was driven out of Suruga. While it is not known whether this is true, it is possible that Ieyasu needed Ujizane to legitimize his own rule of Suruga and Tōtōmi. Thus, Ujizane sought refuge with his wife's family, Hojo Ujiyasu, and took refuge in Odawara Castle.
