Opening Government: RC 1 (Hazel Leung + Jeremy Huang) Opening Opposition: Raimondi (Adrian Chan + Anthony Kong) Closing Government: PLKCKY 1 (Brian Pak + Gordon Cheung) Closing Opposition: exotic vegetable chips (Angel Cheung + Ian Wu) (Speakers of each team are not necessarily in their speaking order) Champion: Closing Opposition Best Speaker of the Grand Final: Ian Wu (Opposition Whip) Date: 9th Feb 2014 Venue: LG109, KK Leung Building, The University of Hong Kong The Hong Kong British Parliamentary Debating Championship 2014 ("HKBPDC2014″) was organised by the Debating Society, HKUSU and the English Debate Team of The University of Hong Kong, and in association with Cornell University. It was an English debate tournament adopting the British Parliamentary ("BP") format for secondary school students, majorly those in Hong Kong. The tournament was held from 7th to 9th, Feb 2014. BP format is one of the most widely adopted debate formats in the world. In addition to many smaller international tournaments, the prestigious World Universities Debating Championship also adopts this format. Through the workshops and tournament, we aim to promote debating especially in BP format among secondary school students, so the participants can improve their critical thinking, global social awareness, oral argumentation, and receive many other benefits from debating. The motions at HKBPDC2014 were released only 30 minutes before the debate at preliminary rounds and Pre-quarter-finals, and 15 minutes from Quarter-finals till the Grand Final. A debater must only prepare with his/her partner.
