Indefinido vs. imperfecto 1 - When do you use which tense? Formation, signal words & examples - Spanish tenses explained simply. Indefinido and imperfecto are two past tenses that are used regularly. The indefinido has the following endings for regular verbs: é, aste, ó, amos, asteis and aron or í, iste, ió, imos, isteis and ieron. The indefinido is used for completed actions and completed periods of time, as well as one-time actions. The imperfecto is formed with the following endings: aba, abas, aba, ábamos, abais and aban or ía, ías, ía, íamos, íais and ían. The imperfecto has three irregular verbs: ser, ir and ver. You use them to indicate states and situations in the past that are habitual, repeated, or occurred in parallel.
