With cars becoming more and more like consumer electronics, Over The Air updates and subscription based services are becoming the norm. From heated steering wheels to Driver Assist features, lot of car manufacturers are moving towards subscription models where you can order a particular feature for a monthly fee basis after you purchase your car. But that also means they have to install these hardware beforehand to enable them later. Why do they do it? Is it as terrible an idea as it sounds?
