Still Life Drawing: Laying In With Gesture And Sighting
For this demo, I’m laying in (constructing) a still life, beginning with a light gesture, and the use of sighting to find proportions and angles throughout. This is the ‘general’ portion of a ‘general to specific’ drawing. I’ve included objects of a variety of size and shapes, with straights and curves, to practice a bit of intuitive perspective and drawing ellipses. While I use this method, I’m working quickly so as to not get caught up in any of the details of the still life. I’m only blocking in the major shapes, so that I can concentrate on the first layer of this drawing being correct in its measurements. This would be the ‘bones’ of the whole, or the framing of a house. If this part isn’t worked out accurately, the rest won’t be successful either.
