Las Anemias : Anemias Regenerativas (Parte 1)

Anemia is a decreased concentration of hemoglobin. This means a reduced capacity of red blood cells, also called erythrocytes, to transport oxygen. However, when we talk about anemia, we generally refer to a decrease in erythrocytes. In this video, I present the basics for understanding the classification of different anemias. We will base our classification on whether it is regenerative or non-regenerative. If an increase in reticulocytes, precursors of erythrocytes, is detected in the animal's blood (with the exception of horses), then we can deduce that the bone marrow is functioning correctly. Therefore, this anemia will be classified as Regenerative. On the other hand, if reticulocytes are decreased, we can deduce that something is interfering with erythropoiesis, and therefore it will be classified as Non-regenerative anemia.
