Riga Restaurant Week is underway in Riga, and this year it's joined by a pastry week dedicated to the iconic Latvian dessert, Vecrīga (Old Riga). I headed to the Old Town to try different versions of this dessert at popular cafes and pastry shops. But it turned out it wasn't that simple—by evening, the dessert was completely sold out at the most famous spots. In this video, I visited several cafes in Vecrīga, showed where I finally managed to find the dessert, compared the variations, and told the story of how this classic Latvian delicacy came to be.
