Pinzgauer Spaziergang - Wandern in Zell am See - 17 km Idylle pur

The Schmittenhöhe cable car takes us up to almost 2,000 meters above sea level. From here, the 17-kilometer long hike towards Saalbach begins. We begin the trip in the ski area with a view of Lake Zell. Then we set off. We pass grazing cows and the last hut for the time being, following a narrow path through the forest. The Kitzsteinhorn peeks in repeatedly. The forest thins out. Open spaces reveal even better views of the glacier, the Hohe Tauern National Park including the Großglockner, and the Salzach Valley. We hike this way to the Rohrertörl. From here we continue up to the Niederer Gernknogel (2,154 m). We follow the trail markers and then lose them. The trail descends without a path over the ridge. You can also bypass this section further down. After about 10 kilometers, we reach a mountain hut at Klinglertörl at an altitude of 1,999 m. This provides welcome shelter in case of thunderstorms or heavy rain showers. We continue, bend after bend. And soon we see our destination. The Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn ski circus lies before us. We head toward the Schattberg East Summit. The last descent is here at 4:15 p.m. If you start early, the hike can easily be completed in 6:30 hours.
