Charlie’s Angels 2 Is Completely Unhinged… I Loved It!
Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle is one of those movies where trying to judge it by normal standards almost misses the point. This isn’t a grounded action sequel trying to top the original through plot or logic. It’s a sugar-rush cartoon disguised as a blockbuster, and whether it works for you depends almost entirely on whether you’re willing to go along with that. For Tara, this was a blast. For Kevin, it’s a movie that is absolutely ridiculous… but knows it, leans into it, and is often more fun because of it. Directed by McG, the movie takes everything from Charlie's Angels and cranks it past reasonable levels. More action, more costumes, more slow motion, more needle drops, more nonsense. There are moments where it barely feels like a movie and more like a hyperactive music video stitched together by pure caffeine. But weirdly, that’s part of the appeal. The plot — involving witness protection, stolen rings, and criminal conspiracies — is mostly an excuse to move the Angels from one insane set piece to the next, and honestly that’s probably for the best. Story has never really been what these films are about. Style is the story. And this thing has style for days. Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu still have the chemistry that made the first one work, and the movie survives on that chemistry more than anything. They sell the joke, even when the movie is operating in complete comic-book insanity. What stands out on rewatch is how much this movie feels like the end of a very specific kind of early-2000s studio excess. It’s glossy, overproduced, absurdly edited, and somehow proud of all of it. The action scenes routinely ignore physics. Characters surf on impossible things. People launch through the air like anime heroes. It’s ridiculous. And yet… it’s weirdly watchable. There’s also a self-awareness here that keeps it from collapsing under its own stupidity. The movie knows it’s silly. It wants to be silly. And then there’s Demi Moore showing up and fully understanding the assignment. Her presence pushes the whole thing even further into heightened fantasy. If there’s a knock against it, it’s that the movie can become exhausting. The first film had just a little more balance. This one sometimes mistakes “more” for “better,” and the relentless energy can blur scenes together. It can feel overstuffed and over-edited. But even that becomes part of its bizarre charm. Watching it now, it plays almost like a relic from an era when big studio movies could be this weird, this playful, and this unconcerned with realism. You don’t watch Full Throttle for coherence. You watch it for spectacle, attitude, and chaos. Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle may not be “good” in the traditional sense. But it is gloriously, entertainingly unhinged. And sometimes that’s more fun. BUY A HAT OR A SHIRT OR ALL KINDS OF OTHER STUFF! https://my-store-f33989.creator-sprin...
