When Muay Thai Legends Enter Flow State

Nine Muay Thai legends who entered a state of flow to control and dominate their opponents (flow state martial arts). Flow state or “being in the zone” is a mental state whereby the individual performing the activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energised focus, complete involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. Essentially, flow is characterised by the total absorption of what one does, and the resulting loss in one’s sense of time and space. Jeanne Nakamura and Csíkszentmihályi identified six factors that encompass an experience of flow: Intense and focused concentration on the present moment Merging of action and awareness A loss of reflective self-consciousness A sense of personal control or agency over the situation or activity A distortion of temporal experience, one's subjective experience of time is altered Experience of the activity as intrinsically rewarding Those aspects can appear independently of each other, but only in combination do they constitute a so-called flow experience.
