Toau - épisode 1 - Sortie compliquée à Fakarava, mouillage à Toau, récolte de cocos, rencontres

We leave the village of Rotoava in the Fakarava atoll to head for the Toau atoll located about 23 miles away. The northern pass of Fakarava is the largest of the Tuamotus and should therefore be easy to cross. We made a mistake by wanting to go through the middle because that is where the tidal bore is, i.e. where the outgoing current meets the waves trying to come in. The 2nd pass is that of Toau. Again no particular difficulty because it is quite wide but again, there is a tidal bore but this time we can anticipate better compared to that of Fakarava. We anchor to the SE of the atoll. There are buoys (4) but they are all taken. We get one back the next day because a boat has left. On land, we harvest coconuts but we also replant some. We see locals in one of the houses. We go to meet them and it's love at first sight. They are great and we would never have imagined that we would then spend 3 weeks together. But that will be for the next episode.
