BORDER LEAGUE RUGBY FINAL 2014 - GALA v MELROSE

This was the first ever Border League Final to take place in England at the club ground of Berwick. Traditionally the Border League President's club hosts the Final. The two top club sides in Scotland based three miles apart went head to head on a Wednesday night with a 6.30pm kick off. Despite concerns that many wouldn't be able to attend the game there was a healthy crowd at the ground with plenty of neutrals coming along to witness the match. There was controversy leading up to the game as Melrose needed to win two games to qualify for the final, while Gala had one match only against Hawick (which they won). The other two clubs in their pool could not field a team late in the season so Gala went through by default with the points from these two matches going to Gala. A Gala v Melrose match is always special and always close and there was plenty of entertainment on offer as the two famous rivals took to the field. www.BordersRugby.net
