In this essential patient education session from the Scleroderma Foundation of Greater Chicago, Dr. Cathryn Lee, MD, provides a comprehensive overview of diagnosis, treatment options, and monitoring strategies for two serious pulmonary complications of scleroderma: Interstitial Lung Disease and Pulmonary Hypertension. Interstitial Lung Disease is a common complication of scleroderma that leads to inflammation and scarring of the lungs. Early detection and proactive management are critical to preserving lung function and quality of life. This talk covers the clinical presentation of scleroderma-associated interstitial lung disease, common tests ordered and how to interpret their results, and current treatment approaches. Dr. Lee also addresses the relationship between scleroderma and Pulmonary Hypertension, another major concern for patients with systemic sclerosis. Key topics discussed in this presentation: How Interstitial Lung Disease develops in scleroderma patients Diagnostic tests for scleroderma-associated Interstitial Lung Disease Treatment options for managing lung inflammation and scarring Monitoring strategies to track disease progression Considerations for Pulmonary Hypertension in scleroderma About the Speaker: Cathryn Lee, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Chicago. Dr. Lee has clinical and research interests in Interstitial Lung Disease. Her research focuses on the relationship between inhalational exposures, both occupational and domestic, and clinical outcomes in patients with Interstitial Lung Disease. Her current work describes the relationship between exposures and survival across all ILDs regardless of underlying subtype. Her overall goal is to better identify these exposures to improve outcomes in patients with Interstitial Lung Disease as well as prevent ILD in those who are at high risk.
