The Architecture of Engagement: Data-Driven Retrieval Practice
What if notetaking could do more than just capture information? What if it could actively build memory, sharpen attention, and teach students how to study on their own? In this session, participants will explore how to interweave retrieval practice with notetaking to transform a routine classroom activity into a powerful learning engine. They will see how small shifts in the way students take, revisit, and rework their notes can keep them engaged during instruction and equip them with study habits that travel home with them. Participants will leave with a clear, ready-to-implement strategy that blends in-class retrieval moves with structured notetaking routines. They’ll walk away knowing exactly how to prompt retrieval during a lesson, how to design notes that invite students back into the material, and how to coach students toward independent study practices rooted in the science of learning.
