South Jakarta – South Jakarta Deputy Mayor Ali Murthadho opened the 2026 Bedug Festival at the South Jakarta City Administration (Jaksel) level, organized by the South Jakarta Culture Agency, at the South Jakarta Mayor's Office on Tuesday (24/2). Ali Murthadho stated that the 2026 Bedug Festival provides a platform to preserve tradition and can become a tourist destination during Ramadan. Meanwhile, the Head of the South Jakarta Culture Agency, Encu Suhani, stated that the 2026 Bedug Festival, held today only, provides a platform for the actualization of the talents and creativity of bedug drumming enthusiasts, while also strengthening the identity and preservation of Betawi cultural values ​​in South Jakarta. This activity also aims to preserve cultural arts, particularly the tradition of playing the drum (bedug), foster and develop the skills and creativity of artists, foster a spirit of healthy competition, and foster cooperation among participants. "One team from each sub-district, totaling 10 teams. The performers will be judged on basic drum playing patterns, vocal technique, makharijul huruf (letter pronunciation), creativity, and overall performance," he explained. The first, second, and third place winners of the 2026 Bedug Festival at the South Jakarta City level will represent South Jakarta at the Jakarta Provincial Level Bedug Festival in March 2026.
