Me and the baby bonobo orphans at the "Lola ya Bonobo" sanctuary, DRCongo
As a highly protected species, baby bonobo orphans, are taken into the "Lola ya Bonobo" sanctuary when they are confiscated from poachers, traders or other people detaining them. Their mothers were killed in the forest for meat, being to small these babies are sold as pets or kept by witch doctors who mutilate them for rituals. At the sanctuary they live together in a group as they are rehabilitated with the help of their human substitute mothers... awaiting the day for them to be released back to the wild years later! www.amisdesbonobos.org
