Birding Kenya 2025 4K part 4: Mount Kenya, the Aberdares and surroundings

We travelled to Kenya in August 2025 for 18 days and mainly stayed in the central part of the country, north of Nairobi. This birding report has three parts devided according to the type of habitat. In the first part we explored two lakes and their surroundings in the rift valley. Lake Nakuru which is an alkaline lake and lake Bogoria which is mainly a fresh water body, with different bird species accordingly. In the second part we looked for birds in Samburu NP and Meru NR. Both rather dry, with savannnah and riverine forest. The last part deals with higher altitude species around mount Kenya and the Aberdares. Unfortunately here the weather was bad for birding, raining most of the time and with a temperature ranging between 10 and 15 degrees celsius. In total we saw around 180 species of which we could properly image over 150 species. A large part of the birds living in Kenya can als be found in the neighbouring countries, Tanzania and Uganda.
