Pope Pius IX granted the following indulgences to those who pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy: A partial indulgence is granted to those who pray this Chaplet with a contrite heart. A partial indulgence is granted each day that they carry the Chaplet with them or kiss the medal of the Holy Angels that hangs from it. A plenary indulgence is granted to those who pray it once a month, on the day they choose, truly contrite, having confessed and received Holy Communion, praying for the intentions of His Holiness. A plenary indulgence, under the same conditions, is granted on the feasts of the Apparition of Saint Michael the Archangel (May 8); the feast of the Holy Archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael (September 29); and the feast of the Holy Guardian Angels (October 2). The chaplet was revealed in Portugal to the Servant of God Antónia de Astónaco, a nun of the Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, around the year 1750.
