Forty members of MS-13 were sentenced to prison terms of up to 642 years for aggravated extortion, homicide, and terrorist activities committed in various municipalities of the department of La Unión during 2020. In a separate case, the trial began against five alleged members of the 18th Street gang (Sureños faction), accused of four aggravated homicides and illicit association committed between 2014 and 2015 in Ilopango and San Martín.
