We talk a lot about the body of Christ. We receive it, we adore it, we contemplate it. But the blood, where has it gone? This meditation doesn't seek to provide a definitive answer. It sits down on an evening of Corpus Christi, leafs through old books, listens to the silences of theology, and allows itself to be moved by a question that is both unsettling and comforting. A question of covenant, of unwavering fidelity, of that which binds us forever. Perhaps the blood of Christ hasn't disappeared. Perhaps it's simply where we don't want to look.
