"The Heart of Speaking" (演講的靈魂) is a Chinese contest speech given by Queenie Lu Sharpe at our inhouse Chinese Speech contest in 2017. It is such a precious find! . I know the days will come when I find no more pictures of her, no more videos. When my hard drives are wiped clean and there are no new surprises. But I am overjoyed when I find them. . For many people in our clubs now, you only knew Queenie when she was sick, or knew of Queenie after she passed. But you never got to see the vivacious, energetic, enthusiastic woman I loved. This is her at her best. . She spent days and weeks preparing this contest speech. Just to compete in the club. She set a standard. She set the bar high. For her, excellence in speaking was always something to be aimed for. . Even in her final Christmas speech. Her body weakened. Wracked with pain from surgery and treatment, she still sat in bed preparing her speech. . She set the example. Prepare. Deliver. Give it your best. . On a separate thought, I am so glad we have the YouTube channel. When I first started, many people disparaged me. One comment was: "Why would I want to watch a speech that I had seen the night before?" . Just in the past week, I have found "Banana Joe," "Grasshopper: Cry in the Dojo, laugh on the battlefield," and today "演講的靈魂." . I created this channel to create and build our legacy. To establish our stories. To keep our voices alive and vibrant. To let the memories flow. . Thank you Joseph Calpin for jumping on board recently. You have been spectacular. And will push forward. . Thank you for your support. . Thank you Queenie my love for the memories, and the example. You will never be forgotten, not as long as I live.
