In this video, I'm going to analyze the Cuyo region in Argentina and the origins of most of its current inhabitants. Cuyo is a cultural and historical region in west-central Argentina, and its main city is Mendoza. Historically, this region was linked to Chile before coming under the influence of Buenos Aires with the creation of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata. In many ways, it's a culturally hybrid region between Chile and the Río de la Plata region of Argentina (where Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, is located). The Cuyo accent has a strong influence from both Chilean and Río de la Plata Spanish. Furthermore, Cuyo is famous in Argentina for being the country's main wine-producing region, its arid climate, and the enormous and imposing Andes Mountains, which form the natural border with Chile. These facts, and others, are what I will be discussing throughout the video to analyze and better understand the identity of the Cuyo region and the origins of its inhabitants.
