“Godi Media Go Back”: Why Jantar Mantar Protesters Turned on the News Channels
“Godi Media Go Back”: Why Jantar Mantar Protesters Turned on the Media examines why CJP protesters at Jantar Mantar chanted “Godi Media Go Back” at television reporters and what this anger says about the credibility of Indian mainstream media. The protest was centred on examination failures, paper leaks, student deaths and demands for political accountability from the Narendra Modi government and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike and Abhijeet Dipke’s CJP movement made Jantar Mantar the centre of a wider student protest. But when television reporters arrived, public anger shifted from the government to the media. This video investigates why protesters increasingly believe that news channels ignore their core demands, search for weak answers and provocative moments, and question citizens more aggressively than ministers. It examines how the coverage of JNU, Shaheen Bagh, the farmers’ protest and the wrestlers’ protest contributed to a larger media trust crisis. The video also questions the role of prominent anchors such as Arnab Goswami, Sudhir Chaudhary and Deepak Chaurasia in shaping narratives that field reporters later carry to protest sites. At the same time, media bias cannot justify assault, intimidation or abuse against journalists. Press freedom and media accountability must exist together. Reporters must be safe, but newsrooms must also answer for selective clips, premature verdicts, misleading headlines and political convenience. Why did Jantar Mantar protesters turn on the media?
