75 Years of VW | 1990s

The 90s were a defining moment in the history of South Africa – and inside Volkswagen too! Even before the first democratic elections in 1994, employees of all races were working side by side to build iconic and popular vehicles such as the Golf, the Citi Golf, the Kombi, the Fox and the Jetta. The latter became a key player in the story of Volkswagen in South Africa: in 1992, the Jetta was the first vehicle exported from the plant in Uitenhage, to customers in China. This decade was also the start of the Polo, which began production in 1996 and is still being built in Kariega today, for more than 30 export markets and South African fans. We asked some of our retired and current VW veterans to share their memories of this decade. #VolkswagenGroupAfrica #75YearsofVW
